Oak Wilt

A permit is required for ALL tree trimming and removals year-round. You can find the permits HERE.   

Trimming of ALL species of Oak trees is prohibited from February 1st through June 30th. 

Oak wilt is a disease caused by an infection of the fungus Ceratocystis fagacearum which is more easily spread during the months for which trimming is prohibited. This fungus can be spread through the roots of some species. It is commonly spread by beetles on live wood cuts or by using tools that have not been thoroughly cleaned and sanitized.  Oak Wilt has affected millions of trees throughout Texas. It is a deadly fungus and there is currently no cure for it once trees have been infected.  

There is a fine for trimming trees without the appropriate permit and an additional fine for trimming Oak trees during the months in which it is prohibited.  If there is an instance of imminent danger from a compromised oak tree, please contact City Hall for guidance or special approval.  

Residents are required to report suspected Oak Wilt to City officials and have the proper testing completed to assess what containment or removal procedures are needed.  

The City of Woodcreek encourages residents to seek the services of licensed arborists for all tree work; however, the trimming or removal of all protected oak trees requires the use of a certified arborist. 

Again, there is NO trimming of Oak trees from February 1st until June 30th.
