Mayor's Corner - May 4, 2021
Greetings Citizens,
April brought a close to the first quarter of 2021. Although we expected April showers to bring May flowers, we endured yet another surprise from Mother Nature. The unprecedented attack of the Oak Rollers. Some have described these worms as the Plague of 2021 and the Worm Armageddon!
While we began our community rebound from COVID-19 and Snovid-21, the biting worms complicated the Spring cleanup. The yellow deposit of pollen did not disappoint. However, April has come to a close, and we brace yet again for storm and flood warnings in May. Due to the snow emergency, the City Council appointed a Citizens Emergency Management Advisory Committee to research and report back to Council in May. This Advisory Committee is studying Citizen Preparedness, Communications and Utility Company Response to past and future emergencies. Nancy Britner, Jack Boze and Pat Rawlings are serving on this committee.
April saw our Comprehensive Plan Advisory Workgroup well on the way to a final survey to be mailed. The survey progressed under the leadership of Mayor Pro Tem Aurora LeBrun, and it included presentations to P&Z and Council in public meetings. Visit the city website for details and public meeting agendas, minutes and videos.
The Parks & Recreation Board conducted its organizational meeting and Council also held an evening gathering at Quicksand Golf Course to discuss potential park locations and recreational uses of city owned properties. Commissioner Lon Shell attended the gathering bringing important information regarding funding opportunities and timelines.

Councilmember Bob Hambrick and his volunteer coordinators are at work making our Neighbor-to-Neighbor Program a reality. Our citizens have enthusiastically embraced the program. Councilmember Hambrick provided an update at the recent Golf Course City Gathering.
The City received an excellent review of Financial Health. The Auditors presented their review and analysis at the April Council meeting. The City was given the highest rating allowed by auditors with no financial irregularities found. Our City Manager is appearing on the local radio station every Monday morning. The broadcast can be found at 94.3 FM from 8:30 AM and provides weekly information about Woodcreek activities.
Best Wishes,
Mayor Gloria Whitehead
