City of Woodcreek – News from our Neck of the Woods

Mayor’s Corner – March 2021

Greetings Citizens,

As we continued through the hardship presented by the Covid-19 Pandemic, we were faced with the Winter Storm of February 2021 that created new and difficult challenges for each of us.  A second state of disaster was declared in less than a year.  After surviving the winter storm, we can now look forward to spring.

City Emergency Management - Council Appoints Emergency Advisory Committee
Mayor’s Coffee:  Let’s Talk Emergency Management – April 7, 2021

Our city weathered the storm with amazing grace and resilience. Most residents had sporadic loss of electric, water and telecommunications service.  With unprecedented communications challenges, City Hall, utility providers and citizens were unable to maintain consistent information outlets for several days during the outages.  Despite the emergency presented, your Mayor, Staff and Council operated in the worst of conditions, alongside courageous volunteers, to reach out to citizens in need. On every street in our city, neighbors checked on neighbors, and provided whatever assistance they could.

Upon recommendation of the Mayor, City Council acted to create an Emergency Advisory Committee to review and reflect on the timeline of events and named three citizens to serve:  Nancye Britner, Jack Boze and Pat Rawlings.  The charge to the committee is to study and report its findings to Council in 60 days. The committee will review the areas of:  Citizen Preparedness, Utility Company Response and Communications.  There will be a Mayor’s Coffee on April 7, 2021 at 10:30 AM with the Emergency Advisory Committee to discuss the timeline of events and to receive citizen input.  Refer to woodcreektx.gov for more information.

Under the Community Resources page, you can sign up for city Email Notifications and the new Text Notification program.  The same page has Useful Links, including websites for Aqua Texas Online, PEC the regional notification system – Warn Central Texas.  Each of these websites provides ways to receive notifications of outages or emergencies.

Councilmember Hambrick

Kickoff Neighbor-to-Neighbor and Neighborhood Watch Programs

We are reaching out to encourage citizens to join with neighbors to participate in these two new opportunities to serve our city. Though we did not have a formalized program during our recent winter storm emergency, it is the Woodcreek Winning Way to reach out in friendship to those new to our city and those in need who are longtime residents.

Neighbor-to-Neighbor is a perfect fit for showcasing our unique character and the Heart of Woodcreek.  Councilmember Bob Hambrick is leading this program, along with the safety program - Neighborhood Watch.

The first event is being held on March 24th and if you missed the chance to register for this event, please contact Councilmember Bob Hambrick at bob.hambrick@woodcreektx.gov to get more information about the programs.

Pavement Assessment/ Roads Project-Public Presentation

Representatives from the city’s engineering firm presented a report outlining a review of the city streets.  It contained an assessment of the current condition of each street and made recommendations and set priorities for council action.  The report can be found on the city website.  After allowing time for citizen input and review by the council, City Council took action to use previously allocated funds to begin the work required to complete Woodcreek Drive first.  Work will begin as soon as specifications are created, and the bidding process is complete.

As additional funding sources are identified and presented for council review, priority streets will be identified, and work will continue.
