What is an Ordinance?
Ordinances are day-to-day laws, enacted by the City Council, that have binding authority on all individuals and entities with the City. Ordinances passed are "found to be necessary for the government, interest, welfare, or good order of the municipality as a body politic". (TX LGC 51.012). An Ordinance cannot be adopted or enforced if it is inconsistent with Texas State Law. Texas State Law / Texas Local Government Code (TX LGC)
