February 2026 Mayor's Note

City News Posted on February 02, 2026

Woodcreek Neighbors:

And just like that — it’s officially winter! I hope everyone stayed warm and safe during our most recent arctic blast. Thankfully, the brunt of the storm arrived on the weekend and allowed many of us to stay holed up and warm in our homes. In case you missed it, Woodcreek has put together a winter preparedness checklist to stay safe during freezing temperatures, heavy rainfall, or power and water outages.

Be sure to check out this month’s feature articles, where we recognize our many volunteers who make our community great. We’ll also have details of our upcoming town hall meeting on potential funding for the city’s Stormwater and Drainage Management Plan. And even though it’s winter, we’re already planning for a new “Music in the Park” series, beginning in March. Read on!

Here’s what else you need to know this month:

  • Retired Mayor Jeff Rasco is returning to duty. The City Council confirmed him to fill an unexpired Council term that was vacated by the resignation of Russell Scott. Councilman Rasco was the sole applicant for this position.

  • As a reminder, you may no longer trim any species of oak trees beginning February 1 through June 30 in Woodcreek. There is a fine for trimming trees without the appropriate permit and an additional fine for trimming oak trees during the months in which it is prohibited.

  • A rabies outbreak in wildlife, particularly foxes, has been confirmed in Hays County. Nineteen cases have already been confirmed in 2026, compared with six cases in 2024. Do not approach or feed wildlife, remove any food sources from your property, and make sure your pets (especially outside ones) are vaccinated.

  • Mark your calendars! The date for the annual City-Wide Woodcreek Garage Sale is April 11. Stop by City Hall to sign up so that your sale can be included on the city-wide map. A limited number of yard signs are also available with your sign-up. Curbside bulk trash pickup will follow on April 15.

As we move through February, the City is proud to recognize and proclaim Black History Month, honoring the history, culture, and contributions that enrich our community and our nation. And with winter weather still a possibility, we also encourage neighbors to check in on one another. Small acts of care and connection go a long way in a place like Woodcreek. By joining together in awareness, kindness, and community spirit, we can make Woodcreek an even better place for everyone.
